In “Gary
Pisano: You Need an Innovation Strategy”, I thought it was interesting to learn
the difference between radical and disruptive innovation, let alone that there
are different types of innovation. After reading the article, it makes sense
that there would be different types of innovation since every business is the
same and one strategy won’t necessarily work for two different companies.
I didn’t find any
particular part to be confusing. This reading didn’t really go into any
concepts that I wasn’t familiar with beforehand. I thought the innovation
landscape map was very helpful in understanding the difference between
different types of innovation.
I would be
interested in knowing how a company decides which innovation strategy is best for
them. I would imagine that there is a small amount of trail and error that goes
into this because you don’t know exactly how the company will function under a
new strategy until a new one has been implemented. Something else I would be
interested in knowing is what are Pisano’s thoughts on the balance between too
much innovation and not enough. How do you know where to stop, or do you never
stop innovating? I think it’s important for business owners to know the pros
and cons of innovation.
In this reading I
didn’t disagree with anything that Pisano said, mostly because I wasn’t familiar
enough with this material beforehand so I didn’t have my own opinions before
reading this article.
